Whip it good with Rayne's new freestyle longboards

Whip – Rayne

You can hit the ground rolling with a few stylish dance moves or carve and flow to your own freestyle with Rayne’s new Whip! New sizes and refinements remind us that Rayne has love for all disciplines of longboarding.

The 2016 Rayne Whip is offered in three lengths: 41″, 44″ and 47″.

  • Whip 41: 41″ x 9.5″ – WB: 25.5″ 26″ 26.5″
  • Whip 44: 44″ x 9.5″ – WB: 27.5″ 28″ 28.5″
  • Whip 47: 47″ x 9.5″ – WB: 30.5″ 31″ 31.5″

If you’ve had experience with the Mike Fitter pro-model you might recognize some characteristics of the Whips. They’re built in a similar mold as the Mike Fitter but differ in the double kicks and flex.

All three are constructed using a custom blend of vertically laminated Bamboo and triaxial fiberglass. Both materials contribute to a light, flexy deck while retaining lots of pop. Artwork is tatooed on so you can be sure it will last as long as your deck does. A feature unique to the Whip in terms of Rayne products are the rounded rails. No worries about a sharp edge cracking your shin during a flip or spin maneuver.

Other features include a symmetrical shape, rocker, micro-drop and 3D wheel wells. The last detail there is pretty cool- Rayne mills material from the core and then presses the wheel wells into the bottom sheet. The result is an extra durable and resilient construction that ensures lots of life from the Whip.

One last detail that will really appeal to the dance and freestylers is Rayne’s Leverage Concave. It features a narrow, flat center that turns up at the balls of the feet in an even, linear direction. Your toes will have a little extra leverage and you’ll have a better idea of foot placement.

Holesom Special / Loaf Over Under

Special / Loaf – Holesom

Holesom has been in the game since 2009. They’re the archetype of a company who remembers that it’s about having fun going down hills. Their unique style gives that sexy, ambient kind of vibe and it’s translated well into the updated versions of their Special and Loaf decks.

The Special was predominantly designed by rider Jordan Hessler in it’s original form. The update is a directional freeride deck designed around rocker and mellow flares, measuring 33 7/8″ long by 8 5/8″ wide at the trucks and 9 5/8″ wide at the waist. It features 1/2″ of concave throughout with some W running from halfway to the back. This creates a super comfortable board for pushing around and doing downhill; your front foot is comfortable but definitely doesn’t have its bubble burst at any point. It offers 3 variable wheelbase options in 1″ increments from 24-26″.

The original Loaf is an extended version of the Biscuit, a derivative of the Holesom owner’s surfboard. The new loaf has been upgraded to a hardrock maple construction and is fitted with some awesome spoon-concave kicktails! It measures 39.5″ long by 9.5″ at its widest point, tapering off to a skinnier 8.75″ near the ends. It also offers 3 variable wheelbase options in 1″ increments from 24-26″ and features a nose spoon micro-kick, mellow flares and 1/2″ of concave with a W running to the tail out back. With a good setup, this board will become your freeride bread and butter!

These updates represent hours of testing and refinement by team riders Gustavo Mello and Antonio Moscatelli. Want to ride with a smile? Hit the link to keep it Holesome and pick up one of these new decks.

Primate Gin Series Poster

Gin Series – Primate Longboards

Mass-produced, machine-run, identical boards sitting in a factory while hands pick them up, slide them into boxes and mindlessly ship them out to those at home, eager to get out and practice the same tricks, the same roads, the same races. Primate wants none of that. Primate Longboards specializes in unique. With their hand-crafted graphics and charred top-sheets, each one of the longboards in the Primate line-up is perfectly unique, different from every other board.

This time, Primate introduces to you the Gin series; a fun-oriented group of longboards that really digs back into the roots of longboarding: flowing, carving and cruising around the neighborhood on beautiful, hand-crafted longboards.

Longboard Design

The Gin series is comprised of three shapes . Each deck is made completely by hand with unique and individual character, guaranteed to be one of a kind. Construction features 5 Baltic Birch Plys and water-based, environmentally friendly sealers. All wood waste from the production of these decks are reclaimed and reused in other applications. The three options measure as follows:

  • Bubbly: 45″ long x 9.25″ wide x 30.75″ wheelbase
  • Reflection: 41″ long x 9.25″ wide x 27.5″ wheelbase
  • Gemini: 38″ long x 9.25″ wide x 23.25″ wheelbase

Prices for completes range from $205 – 235 and ship with your option of Caliber Trucks and Blood Orange Wheels. Based out of South Dakota with an emphasis on the environment, they’ll donate $3 to the Habitat for Hummanity World Wildlife Federation for every board purchased. Subsonic Vega Belly Graphic

Subsonic Vega 36 – Subsonic Skateboards

The 2016 Subsonic Vega from Subsonic includes new features and updates that make this long-standing staple of their lineup even better. The original Vega was designed with veteran and professional downhill racer Chip Wood. Chip was fond of radial concave and rocker in his decks, and the Vega stays true to those sentiments.
