Whip it good with Rayne's new freestyle longboards

Whip – Rayne

You can hit the ground rolling with a few stylish dance moves or carve and flow to your own freestyle with Rayne’s new Whip! New sizes and refinements remind us that Rayne has love for all disciplines of longboarding.

The 2016 Rayne Whip is offered in three lengths: 41″, 44″ and 47″.

  • Whip 41: 41″ x 9.5″ – WB: 25.5″ 26″ 26.5″
  • Whip 44: 44″ x 9.5″ – WB: 27.5″ 28″ 28.5″
  • Whip 47: 47″ x 9.5″ – WB: 30.5″ 31″ 31.5″

If you’ve had experience with the Mike Fitter pro-model you might recognize some characteristics of the Whips. They’re built in a similar mold as the Mike Fitter but differ in the double kicks and flex.

All three are constructed using a custom blend of vertically laminated Bamboo and triaxial fiberglass. Both materials contribute to a light, flexy deck while retaining lots of pop. Artwork is tatooed on so you can be sure it will last as long as your deck does. A feature unique to the Whip in terms of Rayne products are the rounded rails. No worries about a sharp edge cracking your shin during a flip or spin maneuver.

Other features include a symmetrical shape, rocker, micro-drop and 3D wheel wells. The last detail there is pretty cool- Rayne mills material from the core and then presses the wheel wells into the bottom sheet. The result is an extra durable and resilient construction that ensures lots of life from the Whip.

One last detail that will really appeal to the dance and freestylers is Rayne’s Leverage Concave. It features a narrow, flat center that turns up at the balls of the feet in an even, linear direction. Your toes will have a little extra leverage and you’ll have a better idea of foot placement.

Dont' Trip B Hangers and Baseplates

Bhangers – Don’t Trip

Don’t Trip Trucks is a company notorious for its role in creating some of the most innovative trucks on the market. The trucks are deceptively light-weight, uniquely designed and come at a mellower price than most high-end trucks. They do this by manufacturing components that are compatible with each other. This allows for versatile engineering and easy manufacturing of new trucks.

Don’t Trip has managed to create an arsenal of high-quality trucks that meet the needs of a wide variety of disciplines. The new Bhangers fit right in as a precision, traditional kingpin truck well suited for carving, pumping or long-distance pushing. They’re compatible with G/Bomb brackets and related DT products.

The Bhangers ship with axles and spacers that offer four different widths depending on configuration: 125, 131, 137 and 143MM. They’re also available with two different baseplate options in 11° or 25°. The 11° baseplates work well with G/Bomb Superfork or wedged decks while the 25° baseplates work well on a flat mount.

Spherical bearings make these some of the only commercially available, precision traditional kingpin trucks at the moment. They’re CNC machined from 6061-T6 aluminum alloy and ship with RipTide APS bushings and pivot cups.

These unique specifications make the Bhangers a one of a king offering. Hit the link to check them out and cop a set from Don’t Trip. Trucks ship from their shop in Pompano Beach, FL.

Bastl Boards Bolero

Bolero – Bastl Boards

Importing boards to Europe is a thing of the past! Bastl boards is the local board company of your dreams, if you’re in Germany. Bastl Boards is a boardmaker based out of Leipzig, Germany, notorious for making top-notch dancer boards out of unique materials that you can’t find in many other board constructions. This time, they made a quick, nimble 40-incher freestyle deck that rivals the classics!

Introducing the Bolero; a 42.5 inch freestyle legend dead ringer. Featuring supple 3D twin kicktails and wheel flares, the shape of this board is perfect for doing the steps and twirlies all the while keeping open the possibility of doing small, quick boardslides and some introductory freeride. The concave is mellow, reaching 1 cm deep at the deepest point.

Bastl Boards Design & Construction

The construction of this board is unique in that it uses a combination of carbon stringers and a ply of organic basalt as the top and bottom ply. This creates a super unique flex pattern that’s friendly and consistent for boardwalking and freestyle. It also doesn’t lose its spring over a period of time.

Pono – Alani Lani

Editor’s Notes: We’re bummed to see that Alani Lani isn’t producing their longboards anymore. Running a board shop is really hard, so we hope that their team is doing well with whatever they are working on right now. If you are on that team, let us know if we can help out!

You may have seen one of Alani Lani’s beautiful, high-performance decks before and their new multipurpose platform Pono is no exception. Designed for Don’t Trip Skateboards G/Bomb system, the Pono is extremely versatile. Choose your brackets and your trucks based on terrain and riding style to really customize the performance.

The Deck

The deck is constructed of a vertically laminated Birch core wrapped in 13 load-oriented layers of carbon epoxy skins. The core features a 50/50 split of lengthwise and vertical grain, allowing flex or rigidity where you need it. This construction makes for a very lively deck and it highlights their background in high-performance snowboards and sailboats.

The Wheels

Wheelbases range from 36-38″ depending on forks and trucks. It measures 26″ long by 10″ wide and weighs 40 ounces and is offered in a stiff flex with a flat platform. Alani Lani recommends a Don’t Trip Molly 55° front on a G/Bomb super fork with a Delirious 0° rear end but encourages riders to find their favorite combination. The Pono will be available for sale July 15th. Hit the link so you can admire the skills and pick one up at Alani Lani!
