Goat Basati Side Profile

Basati Prototype – Goat Longboards

Goat manufacturers high-end longboards based out of Navarra, Spain. They began in 2011 with Bamboo laminates and have since methodically improved their design, production and testing processes. Their latest experiment is a sexy new composite prototype for team rider Andrez Krob.

Details on the new prototype are slim but notable changes include a carbon-fiber composite upper and lower, additional wheelbase options and flared wheel wells.

Goat has previously teased prototypes that turn into production models so keep an eye here for availability and we’ll update this post with any additional information we receive. Hit the link to check out Goat’s site and grab one of their decks!

Updates from Goat

Goat reached out to provide some more information. They’re refining a new manufacturing process to reduce weight, increase rigidity and incorporate composite materials. This prototype is the successful result. Goat will be working with team riders to improve their new process until it’s ready for the masses. The prototype pictured here features the same dimensions as it’s all wooden counterpart (Shown below).

About Goat Longboards

Since this initial prototype, Goat has been hard at work producing some epic decks, like the Soul, Hare, and Elude. The beauty of these decks is hard to convey: abstract but down-to-earth about captures it.

Their boards are made for a variety of uses. The Soul and Elude are both more geared toward freeriding, while the Hare is made for downhill. You’ll find the specs on all of them match. Along with the Basati, the Thor Hammer is a great option for downhill riders too.

The production of their boards is treated as both an art and a science, with particular attention paid to the craft with the design, as we mentioned. You’ll notice that their boards are bamboo-based, which is common for manufacturers that want a balance of weight and quality. There’s a reason why Goat longboards look so appealing–they work directly with riders to make sure that they’re staying in touch with their needs. It’s clearly working for them!

Wild Monkey Racing Kick Prototype Profile

Kick Prototype – Wild Monkey Racing

Wild Monkey Racing has been experimenting with some changes to their full-sized kicktail model, the Shiv. The new prototype features a trimmed waist and squared nose. The 5.5″ tail is one-inch shorter than the Shiv’s, making the overall length 36″ compared to 37″. An extra quarter-inch in width provides a slightly larger foot platform. 5 different wheelbase options emphasize the versatile, freeride and downhill oriented nature of this deck. Concave and 8-ply Maple construction remain the same, keeping the prototype light and easy to maneuver.

WMR expects the Shiv update to be available in 2017. Hit the link to see more!

  • Construction: 8ply Maple
  • Dimensions: 36″ x 10″
  • Wheelbase: 21″ / 21.5″ / 22″ / 22.5″ / 23″
  • Tail: 5.5″
  • Concave: .5″

About the Company

Wild Monkey Racing is all about performance and speed. They want to make downhill longboards that satisfy the hunger to take on long, winding roads. Into that? You’ll be into their longboards.

Most of their boards are purely maple-based, with some having add components since their original decks were made purely from the wood.

Many of our favorite brands focus on the design: they want to attract you with their artistic flair (and that’s great). Wild Monkey wants you to customize their board, giving you the performance capable board and letting you do the rest. Love it!

You can follow some of their riders on Instagram, like Kurt Lievenbruck and Eric Fahrenthold. Why don’t you give Longboard Envy a follow while you’re at it? 😉

Pono – Alani Lani

Editor’s Notes: We’re bummed to see that Alani Lani isn’t producing their longboards anymore. Running a board shop is really hard, so we hope that their team is doing well with whatever they are working on right now. If you are on that team, let us know if we can help out!

You may have seen one of Alani Lani’s beautiful, high-performance decks before and their new multipurpose platform Pono is no exception. Designed for Don’t Trip Skateboards G/Bomb system, the Pono is extremely versatile. Choose your brackets and your trucks based on terrain and riding style to really customize the performance.

The Deck

The deck is constructed of a vertically laminated Birch core wrapped in 13 load-oriented layers of carbon epoxy skins. The core features a 50/50 split of lengthwise and vertical grain, allowing flex or rigidity where you need it. This construction makes for a very lively deck and it highlights their background in high-performance snowboards and sailboats.

The Wheels

Wheelbases range from 36-38″ depending on forks and trucks. It measures 26″ long by 10″ wide and weighs 40 ounces and is offered in a stiff flex with a flat platform. Alani Lani recommends a Don’t Trip Molly 55° front on a G/Bomb super fork with a Delirious 0° rear end but encourages riders to find their favorite combination. The Pono will be available for sale July 15th. Hit the link so you can admire the skills and pick one up at Alani Lani!

TSG Evolution Knock on Wood

Evolution Wood – TSG Longboard Helmet

Staying safe while you ride is one of the most important aspects of skating and you can do it in style with TSG. Their popular Evolution helmet is now available in a new wood pattern. Construction features a hard, injection molded nylon exterior shell with a shock absorbing EPS foam interior. The wood grain pattern is applied using printed foil so as not to affect the safety features of the helmet.

Wood Helmet Design

Comfort and style remain priorities as well. The anatomical design results in one of the slimmest, best fitting hardshells on the market. It sits low and snug to fully protect the back and sides of your head without sacrificing any freedom of movement. Owners can customize the fit using the included interior comfort pads of varying thicknesses. Thoughtfully located air vents keep the air flowing and your head cool.

Available now at the link. Visit TSG and pick one up today!

Other Helmet Styles

If you cross the streams and bike or skateboard too then you might be interested in some of their other gear as well. They have helmets of all sizes, colors, and uses.

Check out their most basic helmets all the way to their extreme carbon fiber gear and you’ll see the full breadth of their design capabilities. They truly are designing helmets, wood or otherwise, that are a fit for any athlete.

At 30.5 inches long and 7.75 inches wide, it’s the perfect go-anywhere deck that is equally suited to cruising, parks or street. Take a ShortCut and grab one this summer! Available soon from Kebbek. Hit the link to find out more.

Kebbek’s 2017 lineup–their 25th anniversary collection–was dope to begin with, and these precursors make so much sense. They killed it on the 2016 collection, killed it on the Kebbek Shortcuts, and then blew us away on their 25th anniversary lineup.

You may have guessed by the name, but we love longboards. Want more reviews just like this? Enter your email and we’ll let you know when new products get released so you’re the first to cop.
