DK Dropkick Concave

DK DropKick – Eastside Longboards

The DK DropKick is Eastside Longboard’s response to requests for a double-kick version of their popular Carbon DropKick Deck. Released in 2006, the Carbon DropKick is one of Eastside’s original offerings and it’s versatile shape is well-rounded for many riding styles. The DK DropKick improves on this design with a double-kick, new dimensions and a new mold.

DK Dropkick Board R&D

Eastside has spent 8 months developing and prototyping the new DK DropKick. It measures 39.5″ long and 9.75″ wide with a 26.75″ wheelbase. The standing platform is approximately 23″ between the drop-through truck mounts. The new mold adds a subtle W-shaped concave, providing a nice reference for foot placement while still being comfortable for long distance pushing. Slight changes to the rocker and solid 9-ply Maple construction ensure the deck is rigid enough for a double-kick.

Eastside expects the new model to be available before the end of 2016. We’ve reached out for a more specific ETA. Keep an eye on Eastside’s shop and hit the link to head over and purchase one when available!

Update: The DK DropKick will be available for purchase on August 5th! Check out the company’s official announcement and enter to win one before the release.

Ollin Layout

Integrated E-Board – Ollin Board Company

Ollin Board Company is working on an electric longboard deck that features integrated compartments for the batteries and electronic components. This is a significant improvement over the bulky battery packs that have previously been mounted externally. The decks are composed of Maple, Baltic Birch and fiberglass composite with a removable aluminum top hatch that allows access to the interior compartments. At 38.75″ long and 10.25″ wide, there is room to store enough batteries for a 40 mile range. Production boards will ship with a 27-29MPH top speed but with some modifications 40MPH is possible!

What About the E-Boards?

The boards will feature an auxiliary USB charging port for charging cellphones or other accessories and a built in digital voltage display. Included are a transmitter/receiver and 1 or 2 VESC motor controllers depending on which package you purchase. You will need to supply trucks, wheels, motors and motor mounts but some of these components are available at Ollin’s site.

Ollin hopes to have the decks out soon. Take a look at the link and we’ll update when they’re available.

Factory Bushings Line Up

Factory Bushings – Ronin Trucks

Ronin just announced the new Factory Bushings series based on their popular Beverage series. Factory Bushings are intended to make the Beverage series more available and incorporate features and improvements from their factory riders.

What’s New with Ronin Factory Bushings?

Ronin factory riders discovered that their bushings were more effective when the mold-release had been removed. As a result, the interface between the trucks and bushings provided a more consistent ride. By sanding and cleaning the top and bottom of their bushings, Factory Bushings is offering a race-ready bushing straight out of the package.

Available soon at Muir Skate and Ronin. We’ll provide an update and change the link when they’re up.

Ronin has made progress with their bushings and trucks, releasing the Ronin Cast Katana. Check out our full review! Matheus gives us one of our most in-depth reviews ever, letting us know how he thinks of the ride and what he thinks of the features on the Katana.

Are you riding the OEM Factory Bushings? We wanna know! Snap a pic of your board with Ronin gear, or whatever you’re riding, and tag us on Instagram for a chance to get featured.

2016 Lineup – Free Wheel Co.

Free Wheel Company’s 2016 lineup introduces two new urethane formulas and four wheels. Do you want the spoiler? They’re worth a look.

The Wheels

The Dumbs V2 and the Willies feature stone-ground surfaces, center-set cores and asymmetrical lips. They are poured in the new Gold Standard formula, a translucent yellow urethane with controlled slides and flat-spot resistance in mind. The Dumbs are slightly shorter than the Willies but feature a wider contact patch. Both are 78a durometer.

The Free Ranges are poured in the Platinum Plus formula, feature a stone-ground surface, center-set core and are intended for the city commuter. Soft 78a durometer keeps you rolling and the small 60mm size means they’re nimble & popsicle friendly.

The Free Spirits are a square lipped wheel poured in the Platinum Plus formula with an emphasis on grip, durability and consistency. The thick, square lips, wide contact patch and near center set core make them well suited for freerides and drifts.

The new wheels are currently available for purchase from the Omen Longboards site and are in transit to local shops. Grab some at the link.
