Photo of Entire Supreme Collection at Souteby's - #1

Supreme at Southebys

The entire collection of Supreme Skateboards is currently available via auction at Southeby’s. Starting Bid? $500,000. Estimated value: $800,000 – 1,200,000. Time left to make it yours? Not much. Online bidding closes January 25th, 2019 at 12:00 PM EST.

Comprised of 248 decks made by Supreme Skateboards from 1998 – 2018 and the Louis Vuitton Boite Skateboard Trunk, the entire collection is now available for discerning buyers.

Supreme was established in 1994 on Lafayette Street in downtown Manhattan. It was the embodiment of New York skate culture, fostered by a group of locals, skaters and artists who became its staff, crew and customers. It grew to become the darling of counter culture in New York and worldwide – and people would pay for it.

The brand has seen the growth of a near cult following since it was first established. Customers and collectors obsess over the latest releases. The demand for their products is so wild that entire secondary markets have emerged to resell Supreme gear.

They’re known to release small quantities of shoes, clothing and accessories – though careful not to refer to these quantities as limited. Founder and owner James Jebbia has been quoted as saying, “The main reason behind the short runs is that we don’t want to get stuck with stuff that nobody wants.”

Secondary market sales can quickly get out of hand as the difference between the original retail price and the aftermarket price grows. The demand far exceeds the small quantities that are available but in some cases the prices are downright irrational. An example of how coveted their products are is the Supreme red clay brick originally listed for $30 in 2016. They sold out in the first day and some reseller’s listed the brick for as much as $1,000.

So 248 skateboards are now being auctioned in one of the largest Supreme collections available to date. If the collection sells at the low end of its anticipated value, each deck will be valued at roughly $3,225. On the high end, nearly $4,838. Considering each deck is originally sold for about $50 – 60, you can see how desirable a curated and complete collection becomes. At these prices the collection is a steal…
